The six-year-old son of a former Commissioner in Bayelsa state, Chief Godknows Powell, was kidnapped by yet-to-be identified gunmen on New Year's day.
According to report, the victim was abducted on Etegwe road, Yenagoa, when he was returning from the New Year Eve church service with his mother.
Confirming the incident, a family source, who craved anonymity, said the abduction of the little boy had caused so much pain to the entire family in Agudama-Epie.
“We are supposed to be celebrating the New Year, but we are now in a pathetic mood. We pray that the boy is safe,” he said.
He added that the kidnappers are yet to establish contact with the family, while also pleading with them to release the boy in the spirit of the yuletide.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Alex Akhigbe, who confirmed the incident said he had yet to get the full details on how the little Powell was kidnapped.
However, the Seriake Dickson administration, not happy with the trend of kidnapping had slammed a death penalty on kidnappers in the state.
