‘Amaechi has shamed his detractors’

Chairman, Nigeria Governors' Forum, Rotimi Amaechi
THE All Progressives Congress in Rivers State said on Sunday that the state Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has put his detractors to shame by his appearance at the venue of the Save Rivers Movement rally on Saturday.

Some groups in Ogoniland had advised the governor to cancel his visit to Khana, one of the local government areas in Ogoniland, following the attack on the supporters of the Save Rivers Movement at the same venue the previous week.

The state APC Chairman, Dr. Davies Ikanya, in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Chief Chukwuemeka Eze, hailed the governor for braving the odds to attend the rally organised by the group in Ogoniland.

“Against all odds, Amaechi once more proved to be a man of his words by attending the rally against the misguided advice of his detractors, who resorted to scaremongering to dissuade him from doing so.

“By so doing, Amaechi once more proved that he would never abandon his followers but would always be in the forefront of the crusade to defend the rights of the Rivers people, no matter the degree of danger ahead,” Ikanya said.

Ikanya expressed delight over the attendance by APC faithful and Ogoni people, even as he declared Amaechi as the People’s General and the emancipator of the people of Rivers State.

“Contrary to the impression being created by Amaechi’s detractors that he is a promoter of violence, the Ogoni rally went peacefully and successfully without any incidence of violence, thus putting the opposition Peoples Democratic Party and CP Mbu to shame,” Ikanya added.

Meanwhile, the lawmaker, representing Rivers South East in the National Assembly, Senator Magnus Abe, has described the massive turnout of Khana people at the inauguration of the local government chapter of SRM in Bori, as an indication that violence could not subdue the spirit of a free people.
