Angry youths in Manchok area of Southern Kaduna, reacting to the killing of seven indigenes of the area earlier today by suspected Fulani gunmen, have burnt down a mosque and Fulani hamlets.
State governor Mukhtar Yero later arrived in the town to handle the conflict and avoid escalation of the attacks. The governor's spokesman, Ahmed Maiyaki, issued a statement in which he described the killings as heinous and ungodly.
According to a security source, which is part of the reinforcements deployed to the area, Fulani residents have also fled for fear of being attacked by the angry youths.
According to the information provided, some Fulani elders insist they know nothing about the attacks going on and that they are being unfairly targeted.
Thorough investigation of the killings has been ordered by Mr Yero.
The statement said that Governor Yero promised to empower community surveillance by vigilante groups in areas that have become prone to attacks.
Pleading for calm, the governor said, “As a leader, I am not happy with such ugly situation and it is my responsibility to ensure security and peace for the entire people of the State."
