The electrical current passed through the 42-year-old man's body and re-shaped his cataracts to look like stars in the freak incident.
In astonishing pictures from the New England Journal of Medicine, the unnamed man's eyes are lit up to show the true detail of the stars.
Dr Bobby Korn, a professor at the University of California, San Diego, told Live Science: "In this case, the extreme current and voltage that passed through this important natural wire caused damage to the optic nerve itself."
And medical experts have still not been able to explain why the man's eyes have changed shape.
But Dr Korn said in the case of animals' eyes being damaged by electricity, often bubbles would appear and then move the cataracts into a star-shape.
Despite having unique pupils, the man from California now suffers with reduced vision because of the cataracts caused by the incident.
His optic nerve, which connects the brain to the eyes, was damaged after the shock was carried through his nervous system.
Dr Korn said the optic nerve is similar to any wire that conducts electricity where a current will pass through it.
He added that the eye is like a camera.
If the "lens" is damaged it can be repaired but if the "film" is damaged "then you'll never get a good picture."
The electrician has now had treatment to remove the cataracts and replace his lenses.
But the operation only improved his vision slightly - leaving him struggling with daily tasks.
