Reacting to the news of former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Bamanga Tukur's resignation, ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo (b. 1937) stated he holds no personal grugde against the lawmaker.
Speaking on behalf of the former President, his Media Assistant Tunde Oladunjoye said, "I want you to note that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has nothing personal against Alhaji Bamanga Tukur (b. 1935).
"If you look at Chief Olusegun Obasanjo's last letter to the former National Chairman, the issues he raised in that letter are beyond Tukur's resignation," the Aide explained. "If you have a copy of the letter, you will agree with me that those issues are yet to be addressed."
Mr. Oladunjoye was referring to Obasanjo's recent letter to Tukur, written on January 7, 2014. In it, Obasanjo had formally notified the former PDP National Chairman of his withdrawal from the party's activities. The ex-President stressed that any national political party must demonstrate morality, decency, discipline, principles and leadership examples.
It will be recalled that on Wednesday, Tukur submitted his resignation letter to President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday, following multiple controversies and crises withi the ruling party.
However, the former chairman, PDP Board of Trustees (BOT), maintained that he still remains a card-carrying member of the PDP despite his withdrawal from the party's activities.
