VIOLENCE: Gunmen Seed Chaos In Akungba Akoko, Ondo

Four gunmen launched a daring attack in Akungba Akoko, Akoko local government area of Ondo State, on January 31, 2014, Friday.
The gang gunman ran their Mercedes Benz to block the passage of a Nissan Jeep driven by two foreign workers. The attackers kidnapped them, hijacked the Jeep, while shooting indiscriminately in the air.
ASP Wole Ogodo, the police spokesperson, revealed that the vehicle was further recovered along the Isua road, however, there were no sign of the kidnappers and their victims.
The two workers had three mobile phones and N400,000 with them at the time of assault.
The spokesperson further confirmed the police was doing its best to rescue the foreigners and to arrest the suspects.
An Ikare Divisional Police officer, was killed during the attack and five others were injured.
His corpse was taken to Ikare General Hospital, while the wounded people are being treated in different hospitals.
According to one of the witnesses, the foreigners were kidnapped at a nearby bush close to the former Ondo state Governor’s house, the late Adabayo Adefarati.
A wounded person, who was interviewed by Saharareporters, said he was shot in the leg while his boss, the foreigners, were taken by the gunmen.
The foreigners are employed by Charvet Construction Company, and were carrying out work on the Ikare-Akungba road; a contract awarded to the company after years of neglect by successive governments.
