APC Suspends Nasarawa Deputy Governor

The Nasarawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday announced the suspension of the state Deputy Governor, Damishi Luka-Barau, from the party.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the state Interim Chairman of the party, Mr Standly Buba, told newsmen in Lafia that Luka Barau’s suspension followed a recent interview he allegedly granted to journalists in Abuja.
“The party faulted Luka-Barau over his comment in faulting the decision of the National Executive members of the party that its members at the National Assembly should not sign any bill sent by the president.
“Why is he, as a member of the party, going against the decision of the national leadership of the same party that brought him to power,” Buba asked.
The interim chairman said the decision to suspend him came from the party’s supporters in his own ward, Ningo ward, from Akwanga Local Government Area of the state.
He explained that the state interim committee members of the party first received a letter from interim executive members of his ward, informing them of their decision to suspend the deputy governor from the party.
Buba also said that the party would set up a committee to investigate the alleged comment.
“If the outcome of the committee indicts Luka-Barau, we will not have any other option other than to expel him from the party”, he said.
Reacting, the Director of Press in the Deputy Governor’s office, Mr Danjuma Joseph, said: “I am not in official position to say anything, unless I get the permission of my boss.”
“After all he is not in the country, he is in America on an official assignment; this thing was done in his absence,” he said. (NAN)
