A 30-year-old trader, Balaraba Musa, was pushed into a pot of boiling water by a sweeper, Abdullahi Yakubu, at the Mile 12 area of Lagos State.
According to Balaraba, a nursing mother, she and the suspect had an argument after he dropped refuse in front of her shop.
“I sell tuwo around Jamblo market, Mile 12. On January 23, 2014, I was boiling a big pot of water when I realised that someone had dumped refuse in front of my shop. I approached Yakubu who dumped it in front of the shop and he said I should go and tell the elders of the market," she said.
They argued, abused each other and he threatened to slap her. he then held her arms, pulled them backwards and pushed her into the pot of boiling water, after which he fled the scene.
He was however apprehended two days later. He pleaded for mercy, adding that though he is poor, he would try to give her money for treatment.
The incident left Balaraba with burns in her left breast, chest and stomach and she has not been able to work.
She is begging for financial help from anyone willing to assist as she is not married and cannot afford proper health care.
