Coca cola And NBC To Go Under Inspection Over Soft Drinks Unfit For Human Consumption

Consumer Protection Council has directed Coca Cola Nigeria Limited and the Nigerian Bottling Company to subject their manufacturing processes to the Council’s inspection for a period of 12 months to ensure compliance with laid down safety standards and regulations or face prosecution.

The directive came as a result of the outcome of a recent investigation by the CPC, which revealed that cans of sprite soft drink manufactured by NBC under the licence of Coca Coca Nigeria Limited, were unfit for human consumption.

The Director General, CPC, Mrs. Dupe Atoki, disclosed this at a press briefing on the ‘Investigation into Violation of Product Quality Standards by the Nigerian Bottling Company and Coca Cola Nigeria Limited’, in Lagos yesterday.

It has been reported that gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect attacked Bama, a town 135km from Borno state capital, Maiduguri.

According to Premium Times, the invasion took place in the early hours of Wednesday.

The casualty figure is still unknown.

There has not been yet an official confirmation from the police or the military.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Ebonyi State, yesterday, arrested a serial rapist and homosexual, Chibuike Maduka, who allegedly raped four children of different parents at Ndibe in Afikpo North Local Government Area of the state.

The man said his mother, Mrs. Idam Augustina Josephine, was responsible for his strange sexual behaviour, as he confessed to have had sexual intercourse with her on several occasions. Now the suspect claims he doesn’t know what usually compel him to have sex with children in the area.

MONSTER: Pastor Poured Anointing Oil On Girl's Private Part And Raped 16-Yr-Old To "Cleanse Her From Evil Spirits"

A 16-year-old rape victim on Tuesday told Abuja High Court that the accused pastor poured anointing oil on her and raped her in the name of removing evil spirits inside her.

According to the girl, Basil Princewill of Mountain Mover Fire Ministry Church, Nyanya, in 2012 told her he had a revelation that her foundation was dirty and that her father’s wife was trying to kill her. The pastor reportedly added that Lord told him to perform a quick deliverance on her.

The victim agreed, after which Princewill brought a white handkerchief and a bottle of oil and asked her to remove her clothes.

"He also asked me if I was menstruating and I told him no. He told me that I am possessed with many evil spirits that have stained my blood and it will only take my husband to deliver me and I was not married, he said that he will carry out the cleansing on me," she said.

She further narrated that the pastor led her into his bedroom and asked her to close her eyes, brought his handkerchief and placed it over her head and she became very weak.

She said the accused raped her.

EFCC Press Release: EFCC Arraigns Banker For N450 Million Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission , EFCC, on Tuesday February 11, 2014, arraigned one Akpojiyouwi Grace before Justice Babajide Lawal-Akapo of the Lagos High Court sitting at Ikeja on one count charge bordering on failure to conduct due diligence in financial transactions.

The accused a former employee of Union bank is accused of complicity in the mega scam that rocked the bank early this year when some fraudsters hacked into its data base and pulled out hundreds of millions of naira. Akpojiyouwi allegedly failed to conduct due diligence as the account officer of Dan Kawu Bureau De Change before confirming and authorizing the payment of N450,000,000 (Four Hundred and Fifty Million) to the company.

The students of The Polytechnic Ibadan on Tuesday gave the Oyo State government and the institution’s branch of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, ASUP, a 24-hour ultimatum to resolve their differences and reopen the school or face major student unrest.

The students gave the warning during a peaceful protest staged to condemn the ongoing strike embarked upon by their teachers since October 2013.

Displaying placards with inscriptions criticising the face-off between their lecturers and government, the students marched from the main gate of the campus, through the Sango-UI road and on other major roads within the axis to air their grievances.

Though no major breakdown of law and order was recorded during the protest, the students were accompanied by the Nigerian Police. The protest, however, disrupted vehicular movement for about three hours.

According to a reliable source, the girl visited the boyfriend identified as Martins at No 46 Old Market Road on the night of Monday, 10th February with the hope of discussing how to spend the Valentine’s Day.

As her beloved was not in the house, she decided to wait and that when he arrived, she queried him to know where he had been. The source further stated that her boyfriend, who was infuriated, attacked her.

Another account, however, stated that Chinonso had first drawn a kitchen knife to attack Martins but was unlucky as he overpowered her, and stabbed her to death.

It has been gathered that the suspect tried to escape from the scene of the murder, but neighbours stopped him.

The House of Representatives on Tuesday confirmed that the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, breached the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007.

The House said the minister breached the Act by failing to attach the details of the budget of the 31 government agencies listed under the law to the 2014 budget currently before the National Assembly.

A six-man advisory committee, which the House set up on Tuesday last week to guide it on whether members should debate the budget or not, laid its report on Tuesday.

The committee noted that Okonjo-Iweala failed to comply with the provision of Section 21(II) of the Act, where she was required to attach the details of the budget of the agencies for consideration by the National Assembly.

Mr. Okah’s lawyer says the alleged jailbreak report was fabricated by the authorities ahead of Mr. Okah’s hearing at the South African Supreme Court of Appeal in March.

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, and South African-based lawyer, Idemudia Uriesi, have faulted the report that Henry Okah attempted a jailbreak in that country. Mr. Okah, the leader of MEND, was arrested by the South African Government shortly after Nigeria’s 50th Independence Day Anniversary bombing in Abuja on October, 1 2010.

He was arraigned on charges of international terrorism at the Gauteng High Court; Johannesburg, South Africa. On March 26, 2013, he was found guilty and sentenced to a 24-year jail term at the Newlock Prison, Pretoria. On Monday, the South African prison authorities alleged that Mr. Okah colluded with four other inmates to carry out a jailbreak.

Nigerian Muslims Mourn Over Scholar's Death

Thousands of Nigeria Muslims have continued to mourn the death of Nigeria’s leading Salafist scholar and prominent anti-Boko Haram preacher, Sheikh Mohamed Awwal Adam Albani who was assassinated Saturday night while returning from one of his routine lectures.

"They thought killing us would deter us from preaching the truth. They don't know that they are encouraging us. Sunni scholars are always happy to be killed in the course of Allah,” Kano-based Islamic scholar Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa was quoted by The Daily Trust on Monday, February 3.

“Therefore, the killing of Sheikh Muhammad Awwal Albani though painful, is an encouragement to us. We will continue to preach more truth so that they will kill us and we die as martyrs,” he added during the funeral of Sheikh Albani on Sunday.

Sheikh Albani was killed on Saturday night after a gang of armed men attacked him and his family, killing the scholar, his wife and son.

With over 8.2 million people dying of all manner of cancer yearly, it is now the highest killer disease in the world.

This is as the International Agency for Research on Cancer says Nigeria has the highest number of women dying from cervical cancer in Africa.

The agency released the report on Tuesday in Geneva, Switzerland as the United Nations marked the World Cancer Day.

The report noted that the world recorded more than 14.1 million of cancer cases in 2012 while its incidence rose by 11 per cent in the last four years.

The report stated, “As a single entity, cancer is the biggest cause of mortality worldwide. There is an estimated 8.2 million deaths from cancer in 2012 while 14.1 million cancer cases were recorded in the same year-equal to the population of India’s largest city Mumbai. Cancer cases worldwide will rise by 75 per cent and reach close to 25 million over the next two decades.”

Indications have emerged that more bank workers will lose their jobs in 2014 following cost-cutting measures about to be introduced by the deposit money banks in order to mitigate the effects of some regulatory policies on their profitability.

Since the era of the global financial crisis in the mid-2008 and the special audit test carried out on banks by the Central Bank of Nigeria, the banking sector has witnessed a chain of job losses estimated at more than 15,000 by industry watchers.

The recent increase of Cash Reserve Ratio on public sector funds from 50 per cent to 75 per cent, among other policies, was the main reason for embarking on the staff rationalisation programme.

A cobbler identified as Yusuf Ojuolape has been arrested and charged to court for allegedly fondling his neighbour's 6-year-old twins at their residence at 23, Okearin Street, Lagos Island.

It was learnt that Yusuf and his friend Akibu, a bouncer were fond of calling the little girls to their room were they assaulted them by inserting their fingers in their private parts.

According to the girls' mother, Mrs Akeem, she got to know about the assault after she noticed swelling around her daughters private parts, while bathing them. When she asked her girls what happened, they told her what Yusuf had been doing to them.

Yusuf ran out of luck, when one day, she sent the twins on an errand and he and his friend cornered them and succeeded in taking one of the twins inside while the other one ran home to inform her mother. The mother brought the police who succeded in arresting Yusuf but his friend ran off.

Yusuf was arraigned at an Ebute Metta Magistrate’s court for his crime.

Nnezi Diana Mbila, wife of popular musician, J Martins, has given birth to a bouncing baby boy in the US.

The pretty Mbila gave birth to the child at Gwinnett Medical Centre, Atlanta Georgia at about 10:37pm (American time) on Tuesday.

The baby boy has already been named Jason by his parents.

Also. J-Martins confirmed that the baby and mother are in good condition.

It’s The End Of The Road For Windows XP And Office 2003!

I remember when I first used a computer. It was e-machines. Very solid system then; as were the many other tech brands that have been swept under the carpet by more vibrant product brands over the years.

I will never forget the still image of a lush green meadow that greeted me on my home screen after the usual Windows XP loading bars and fast forward several years later, we had to upgrade to Windows Vista and so on. Matter of fact, Vista was like a major break from the Windows norm and without entirely taking in its features, Windows 7 was launched and was good, not great. Then came Windows 8. Pure class. Mastery of the art and science of technology. Such ease. I know people who live for the upgrades! What I cease to understand however is why some organizations like our very infamous Cyber Cafés, IT driven firms, etc. have bluntly refused to upgrade to Windows 8. Are they really skeptical about testing new waters or would they rather stick to the status quo? Or is it because Microsoft still provides support for these old versions of the Windows Operating system?

Former Governor of Bayelsa State, Timiprey Silva, on Monday in Yola, Adamawa State capital, apologized to all Nigerians on behalf of the Niger Delta region for producing an incompetent leader in the person of president Goodluck Jonathan.

The former governor recalled that in 2011, he was in Adamawa State with elders of Niger Delta region to plead with the North to support Jonathan, as President. He said his action was a big mistake.

“The country is not performing, the ship is sinking due to poor leadership,” he said, urging all Nigerians to put hands on deck to oust PDP in 2015.

Prince Noel Tochukwu Unegbu, the creator and CEO of Imo Got Talent was shot dead in his room at Rapour Hotel in Owerri yesterday, February 4th by unknown gunmen.

The Houston, Texas based CEO of Prince Noel Production arrived Nigeria this January to attend meetings and wrap up preparations for the second edition of IGT, which was to hold in a few months time, when he met his untimely death.

The All Progressives Congress has asked the new Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh, and the service chiefs to defeat Boko Haram before the 2015 general elections.

The opposition party also urged them to liaise with other arms of the security agencies to improve the level of security across the country ahead of the 2015 elections.

It was informed in the statement issued in Port Harcourt on Tuesday by the Interim Chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the party, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya. APC added that the APC was delighted over Badeh’s pledge to end the Boko Haram onslaught by April 2014.

The perty expressed the hope that such a promise was not made to ensure the speedy confirmation of their appointments by the Senate.

The statement reads in part,

Tension, yesterday, enveloped a popular school in Osun State, the Baptist High School, Iwo, as the students wore different dresses that suited their religious inclination to school.

The students, thereby, defiled the state government uniform specification recently introduced in all public secondary schools in the state as part of the schools reclassification programme.

Moreover, they were singing different religious songs while on the assembly for the morning devotion.

While the Christian students who wore white garments sang Christian songs, the Muslim students who appeared in veil sang Muslim songs.

The school management immediately sent the students to their various classrooms and informed the state Ministry of Education of the development.

Secondary school students have decried the introduction of the 39 new subjects in this year’s May/ June examinations, saying most of the subjects still lack teachers.

Speaking with Vanguard, the students said not having qualified teachers to handle the subjects would defeat the aim of introducing these subjects.

According to the students, “The initiative is a brilliant one, especially when you consider the fact that some students leave school without any hope of knowing what next to do. If there was any doubt as to how much of an impact sleep has on your life, work and relationships, this study underlines the importance of a good night’s rest.

Conducted by the University of California, Amie Gordon and Serena Chen found that just one night’s poor sleep can damage your relationship.

In the research, reported Psyblog, 78 couples were tracked over a two-week period. Each day the couples were asked to make notes about their sleep quality and any arguments they’d had with their partners that day. The results showed that even for those who were good sleepers, just a single night’s poor sleep showed an increase in arguments and conflict the next day.

“For the first time, to our knowledge, we can see the process of how the nature, degree, and resolution of conflict are negatively impacted by poor sleep,” said Chen, a professor of psychology at UC Berkeley.

Although the findings did not include factors of anxiety, depression or any existing issues in the relationship, poor sleep makes people more irritable, less able to concentrate and fatigued.

APC Broom Sweeps Out Kano House Of Assembly Speaker

Alhaji Gambo Sallau, the Speaker of Kano State House of Assembly, today announced his resignation from the position.

This is coming barely 24 hours after 26 from PDP defected to APC, giving the party a majority of 33 out of 40 members.

He made this known during a broadcast programme on Kano-based Freedom Radio.

He said, "I, Gambo Sallau, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, hereby announce my resignation as the speaker.

"Now that the PDP has become an opposition party, I will not continue to be the Speaker of the House."

Sallau also commended members of the house, the state government and the public for their support in the last two years.

TERRIBLE: Couple Strangles Woman To Death For Refusing Their Sexual Advances

A 29-year-old woman was strangled to death by a couple, living in the same building with her for refusing their sexual advances.

The naked body of the 29-year-old Mahtab Savoji, an Iranian who was studying costume design in Milan was found in a luggage in a canal last week where the couple had dumped her after strangling her.

The Indian couple 30-year-old Gagandeep Kaur, 30 and 28-year-old Rajeshwar Singh have been arrested in connection with the murder but denied killing her claiming they only panicked and hid the body after finding her dead last Monday morning, after she had drunk a lot of whisky the night before.

The couple who were captured on CCTV were said that have been under suspicion following their contradictory accounts.

Police are working on the theory that the murder was the result of the student rejecting unwelcome sexual approaches by the couple.

A 12-year-old Yemeni girl has shocked and left superstitious villagers of her home community in fear after it was revealed she cried out stones instead of tears.

Chief Akunwata Ozoemena Nsugbe aka Ayaka Igbo Nine has passed away.

According to his family members, he died of diabetes.
