Ado-Ekiti - An assistant director and an unspecified member of civil servants in Ekiti have been punished for either playing politics with their jobs or tampering with pension fund.
The Head of Service, Olubunmi Famosaya, said this on Monday in Ado-Ekiti at a news conference organised to herald the 2013 Civil Service Week.
He said the director, whose name he did not mention, connived with others to mingle politics with their civil service job in spite of the several warnings given by the government.
According to him, those punished for tampering with N21million, part of money earmarked for pensioners in the state, were either compulsorily retired or dismissed.
Famosaya said the government had not ruled out the possibility of instituting legal action against them.
Famosaya expressed regrets that fraudulent activities of the cabal were responsible for the state government’s inability to pay pensioners in the last two months.
He said the governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, got to know about the fraud and constituted an investigative panel which sat and found the culprits culpable.
The head of service said the government would continue to punish wrong-doing in the service and adequately reward every exemplary performance by workers.
