Ekiti donates buses to labour, trade unions

Ekiti State Government has presented eight 18-seater passenger buses to some organisations in the state.

The beneficiaries of the free passenger buses were the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Progress FM, Ado Ekiti; the state chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress.

Other beneficiaries were the Nurses and Midwives Association, Ebira Community, state Timber Traders Association, state Sawmillers Association and the National Automobile Technician Association.

Presenting the buses to the union in Ado Ekiti, the state capital on Friday, Governor Kayode Fayemi said the gesture was aimed at strengthening the capacity of the benefiting associations in keeping with its promise to continue to work in harmony with the people of the state.

The governor, who said there was no harm in providing logistics for the associations, said, “The benefiting organisations contributed immensely to the socio-economic stability of the state.

“The Timber Traders Association is one of the largest employers of labour in the state. The Ebira community has played a crucial role in the development of the agricultural sector.”

He emphasised his administration’s readiness to provide support for any organisation seeking to provide employment opportunities for the unemployed youth.

“There is no harm in supporting the associations with logistics. They had approached government last year to get the passenger vehicles in pursuit of their work in the state. They will use it for the benefit of their members and pursuit of their profession which have employed sizable number of the unemployed population.

“We must do everything to support organisations which provide jobs and create the enabling environment to create more jobs,” he said.

In his remarks, the General Manager, Progress FM, Mr. Dare Olorunfemi, said the problem of mobility in the station predated Fayemi-led administration.

He lauded the administration for its efforts in the area of infrastructural development in the state.
